• Voter Registration
  To vote in Maryland, you must register to vote (Code Election Law Article, secs. 3-101 through 3-603). Your local board of elections can advise you on how and where to do that. Online Voter Registration also is available.

Since July 2012, the State Board of Elections has made available an Online Voter Registration (OLVR) System. From the Board's website, voters now can register to vote in federal, State, county and municipal elections in Maryland. They also can update their registration to reflect change of name, address, or party affiliation.

• Voting Methods
  In the voter's county of residence, a registered voter may vote:
  
  1) on election day at an assigned polling place,
  2) prior to election day at an early voting center,
  3) or by absentee ballot.

• Primary Elections
  Next primary election: June 24, 2014.

  In Presidential Election years: held on 1st Tuesday in April (2016, 2020) (Chapter 169, Acts of 2011; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-201).

  In Gubernatorial Election years: held on last Tuesday in June (2014, 2018) (Chapter 169, Acts of 2011; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-201).

• General Elections
  Next general election: November 4, 2014.
  

  Held on 1st Tuesday after 1st Monday in November in even-numbered years (2014, 2016)
  (Chapter 99, Acts of 1956, ratified Nov. 6, 1956: Const., Art. XV, sec. 7; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-301).

  Next municipal primary election: June 24, 2014, (for circuit court clerk, orphans' court judges, register of wills, sheriff, & state's attorney)

  Next municipal primary election: September 2016 (for mayor, city council, & comptroller)

  Held in Presidential Election year, on 1st Tuesday in April (2016, 2020) (Chapter 548, Acts of 2012; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-201).

• General Elections
  Next municipal general election: November 2016.

  Held on Tuesday after 1st Monday in November in Presidential Election year (2016, 2020) (Chapter 548, Acts of 2012; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-301).
