The Natural Resources Conservation Service was established by Congress in 1935 as the Soil Conservation Service. To reflect its broader mission of land conservation, it received its present name in 1994.

Using conservation planning and assistance techniques and funding, local offices work with landowners to ensure productive land and healthy ecosystems.
