On March 10, 2011, the Board of County Commissioners appointed the Charter Board composed of nine members and three alternates.
The Charter Board submitted the Charter of Frederick County to the Board of County Commissioners on August 7, 2012. The Charter was ratified by the voters on November 6, 2012.
As a result of the adoption of the Charter, County voters will elect a County Executive and County Council, beginning in November 2014.
