In October 2012, the Northeast Maryland Higher Education Advisory Board was formed (Chapter 661, Acts of 2012). The Board provides support and assists with the development of higher education in Cecil and Harford Counties. It works with the four universities that offer approved undergraduate and graduate programs in those counties: The Johns Hopkins University, Notre Dame of Maryland University, Towson University, and the University of Maryland, College Park.
To the University Center at the Higher Education and Applied Technology Center, the Board provides advice on programs and faculty use, and helps in marketing and promoting Center programs. With the Center, the Board works to identify programs and institutions to meet northeast Maryland's higher education and workforce needs. Further, the Board interacts with area businesses, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and the military community, particularly Aberdeen Proving Ground.
The Board's members initially are appointed by the Advisory Board to the University Center at HEAT to three-year terms.
