In July 2013, the Task Force to Study Enhancing Boating and the Boating Industry in Maryland was authorized (Chapter 180, Acts of 2013).
The Task Force is to evaluate options and make recommendations on how to enhance boating and expand Maryland's boating industry. Evaluating the impact of modifying the vessel excise tax rate and boat registration fees, as well as incentives to encourage boaters to register their boats in the State and use Maryland's marinas and boatyards will be considered. The Task Force also will gauge what benefit expenditure and use of the Waterway Improvement Fund provides to the general boating public and the boating industry; how decreased State and federal spending on boating access has affected the boating industry; and the costs and needs of maintaining and improving public boating infrastructure and boating safety.
Authorization for the Task Force ends June 30, 2016.
