Annual Report to Governor & General Assembly due Jan. 1 (Chapter 635, Acts of 2010).
The Maryland Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Authority was authorized in October 2010 (Chapter 635, Acts of 2010). The Authority hears complaints and assesses civil penalties for violations of State law protecting underground facilities, such as natural gas, telephone, cable, television, water and sewer lines. The Authority also oversees the Maryland Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Education and Outreach Fund. The Fund covers the costs of public education and outreach programs, and the development of safety procedures to prevent damage to underground facilities (Code Public Utilities Article, sec. 12-117).
Appointed to two-year terms by the Governor, nine members constitute the Authority (Code Public Utilities Article, secs. 12-106 through 12-114).
